One feature that really impressed me about Happy Game is the almost complete lack of dialogue or specific explanations. The game tells its story through images, sounds, and the situations the player encounters. When I first started playing, I was a little confused because I didn’t know what the goal was or which direction the storyline was going. But after playing for a while, I began to understand that the game doesn’t want me to “understand” rationally, but rather to feel more.

In reality, during gameplay, there were parts I couldn’t explain in words, but I could still clearly feel the emotions the game evoked – sometimes sadness, sometimes fear, sometimes pity for the tiny character walking in that dream. This feeling arose because I pieced together the images in my head; each person might interpret it differently.

For me, this storytelling style makes Happy Game more like a work of art than a typical game. It doesn’t force me to follow a clear storyline, but lets me think for myself after playing.

Graphics and sound

Happy Game has a very distinctive graphic style from Amanita Design, instantly recognizable. When I first started the game, everything seemed very bright, the colors were vibrant, the characters were round, like a children’s comic book. But after playing for a while, I began to notice something “off” in those very images. The smiling faces were sometimes too wide, the eyes looked empty, and the scenery gradually became distorted.

Regarding the sound, this is what impressed me the most. The background music and sound effects in Happy Game sometimes sound cheerful like children’s music, and other times they shift to distorted, jarring sounds that are unsettling in a positive way. In fact, during gameplay, there were parts where I felt tense just because the laughter lasted a little too long, or a repetitive sound felt very unsettling.
