Sengodai is a colorful game with mythological influences. It has a beautifully crafted hand-drawn art style where every scene looks like a page from a storybook. Cleansing of the cursed tiles situated on the board deals damage to the enemy god. There is an added twist to this as the damage-dealing consists of a two-step rhythm of charging and cleansing. Because this approach is indirect, you need to think several moves ahead to effectively manage resources or risk losing ground on the board.

Your team of mythical Gokai

Your squad in Sengodai consists of three Gokai chosen from a roster of over 20 monsters rooted in Japanese folklore. You’ll unlock and evolve these creatures as you travel through procedurally generated worlds, finding synergies that suit your playstyle.

Building a team acts as your deck construction, but you can’t just spam your strongest moves blindly. You have to manage each Gokai’s stamina carefully, because letting them get exhausted means they are stunned and useless for three whole turns.

Led by the elemental gods

Each time you enter into battle, you never once take to the field alone, because at your side – or at the centre of your quest – stands one of the five powerful Elemental Gods that will coordinate your every move into battle, as your commander and strategic backbone. Every god brings to the team a different elemental force and philosophy around combat, which influences how the whole team performs throughout a run.

Your tactics should change when they are present because they offer useful bonuses above may just stat bonuses. Each Elemental God advocates a unique style of play.

A number of people prefer offensive strategies which prioritize fast attack and damage output, while some prefer defensive formation, resource management or survival. With the variety of factions, no two campaigns feel identical which gives players the freedom to try out different leaders and see which best fits their fighting style.

A world of endless discovery
